Most companies are focused on building the charging infrastructure for heavy-duty vehicles that require big batteries but very few are addressing the surging demand for electric two and three-wheelers. Terra Motors is one of such few companies that’s focused on deploying low-power EV chargers that primarily focus on electric 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers.
Terra Motors is the first Japanese company to enter the EV space in India. While we already have some of the greatest giants like “Tata Power” building its EV foundation from the ground up, it’ll be challenging for Terra Motors to bring a USP and make their charging station as successful as its electric 3-wheeler business.
Similar to Toyota, the “Terra Motors” originates from Japan that deals in Electric 3 wheelers in India. They ventured into the charging station business in 2022 and now they are bringing the charging station business to India. Starting from Haryana they are planning to make as many as 1000 charging stations all over India.
Focused on low-power EV chargers like 3kW and 7kW they’re planning to target private vehicle LEVs and commercial vehicles like e-rickshaw and e-loaders. On the contrary, they are also planning to have high-power EV chargers with a rating of 82kW. The company is focused on solving infrastructural issues and catering to the surging demand for electric vehicles in India.
Is “Terra Charge” a success in India:
Despite having an excellent market cap of E-rickshaw in India very few are dedicatedly working on solving the E-rickshaw charging issue in India. With the company working on solving such a crucial issue in India, it’s highly possible for them to gain an edge in the charging station market. But the greatest hurdle for them is India’s loose standardization in EV charging, the existing EV giants in India, and the low margins in the LEVs and commercial EVs.
With their deep penetration in the EV 3-W market, they have existing experience and the right team to work with. All the market odds are with Terra Motors not it’s just a matter of time before they can define whether they’ll be successful or just another EV company in India.
